Default rear brake caliper - reattaching e-brake cable *pic added*

I just replaced the right rear caliper on my 2000 SSEi and am having trouble re-attaching the parking brake cable/spring to the caliper. Anyone have any tricks or ideas to make it any easier? :?

Here is a pic of it, I wouldn't have thought I would have that big a problem with it but I need to pull the spring back somehow to get the cable inserted into the caliper. It is basically like a big throttle cable.

I hold the end with a pair of vise grips, and push the spring back with a screw driver. It takes a few tries, but has worked for me.
