yes they need to be replaced if you have advance, orielly'*, or order from rockauto get the monroe max air part # MA822 they are bigger and last longer than the stockers

They are a very easy direct bolt on, hook up the airline (if equipped) and call it a day.
The 00-05'* really have a nice setup in that regard.
