Default 5.3L GXP engine in the Bonny?

Anyone know if it'* feasible to do a swap and put the 5.3L V-8 monster that'* in the new Grand Prix GXP into an '01 SSEi?

Thanks,
Jason

it would be feasable, but why would you want to when there is such a HUGE aftermarket for the 3.8?

Default Engine Swap

Well you're right in that there is a huge aftermarket for the 3.8 but if you're starting with a 5.3L V-8 that is N/A then you can achieve much more power than from even the set-up that Scott Cook has on his 3.8.

in THEORY, however the 5.3 may not be able to stand up to extra power or forced induction.

Well I'm just trying to figure out if it'd be cheaper overhauling the engine and trying the swap and going from there or modding the 3.8. My concern with the 3.8 is if it can handle 500HP at the wheels. That is my goal for the car. I have the money to do it but trying to figure out the best solution to attain that kind of power and have the car running great and not be messed up because of it.

i think you would be much better off with the 3.8.. atleast there is tons of support if anything goes wrong and anything you would do to the 5.3 would probably be totally custom or prototype

But theres something about a V8! And then agian theres something about keeping the same motor in your car... The 3800 behaves just like a V8 don't worry with the aftermarket either sounds great... The 3800 and 5300 each have a rumble of there own they each rock... Darn there is some appeal to having the only V8 powered SSEi!

you would be better off using a GXP motor i think... it would atleast bolt in easier and alot less electrical mods.. get a GXP motor, engineharness, and any other parts that you have issues with get the GXP version, then let the modding begin

Our turbo car has dynod over 619 at the wheels and up to 30lb of boost. The iron block of the 3800 will probably hold more boost than the aluminum of the LS4. Your right however that yoru starting with more on the LS4 and in fact we are looking into turbo applications for the GP GXP. Your main issue will be the PCM in the bonneville not able to handle the DOD requirements of the LS4, and an LS4 PCM not being able to handle the BCM in the Bonneville.
