Don't quote me, but I believe the 03 had a 10W-30 cap....I'll try to verify that for you.

I also believe the trans dip-stick handle was black that year and not red.

The cap indicates what should be put in if there is no preference by the owner. If you want to run certain weights in certain temps that is fine. But realistically, these engines can run on 5W-30 IN ALL TEMPS as long as the oil gets changed when it should.

Thanks for your help. I'm extremely articulate about things. Since the car is used I'm thinking what happened that the oil fill cap was replaced. Since I have a 94 Bonneville, I know that the recommended oil is 10w 30, so I noticed that right away.

I have a 10W30 cap. Owners manual recommends 10W30.

Ok, so my oil fill cap was replaced for some reason. Now how do I get the correct one? Can I get it online or do I have to go to the dealer? Little things like this drive me crazy!

Hello, new to the board, Hello everyone!. About the oil cap I have a 2003 and mine reads 5w 30. I read somewhere that the recommended viscosity changed in 2003. Hope this helps.

You would think that IF GM changed their oil requirements, they would notify all the owners that were effected with a bulletin to add to their owners manuals. Personally I would stick with what is written in the manual. I have no idea what the P/N would be to get an OE 10W-30 Oil Cap from the dealer.

YEAH BABY!!!!!!! BLOWNBONNIE SAVED MY LIFE!! But why? Why did they change the cap for 03. My owners manual calls for 10w 30. Oh well, as long as I know no funny business took place.

Thanks guys. This board is great.

Honestly guys. Only (j/k) engineers could get this anal about the differences in 5W to 10W.

It'* very close and in our engines the levels of tolerance are such a wide band that 5W-30W versus 10W-30W is a very mute point.

If your cap was ever replaced Mike...it would probably have been changed with an aftermarket one from a parts store w/o any writing on it.
