Default Power Window Switch Replacement

Greetings from a Newbie!
A power window question on my newly aquired 2000 SE. The passenger front window doesn't go down using the button on that door. It goes up & down OK using the window switch on the driver'* door. Using the switch on the passenger front door itself, it will only go up, not down (after taking it down with the drivers switch, the front passenger switch will put the window up OK).

Because of the symptoms, I bought a replacement window switch for the passenger front door & am going to install it. Does the entire door panel need to come off, or does the trim panel (plastic-oval shaped) 'pop' out of the door panel allowing access to the switch? I found great instructions to remove the door panel, but if the trim piece comes out easily the switch replacement looks would go easier.

Thanks in advance for your help. I've already found (& resolved) several issues on the car with the help of this GREAT forum!

When i bought the 01SE in June i had the same exact problem

take a flat headed screwdriver and w/o hurting your panels finish, pop out the "cap". mine is tan. youll need to pop it out from the side where the window button pulls down. like your pulling the window down.

Then more fun begins. Youll see a black box inside of this "cap" thats the switch and just try and pull out that box. Theres these "snap & lock" things that holds the switch box to the cap. a screwdriver should help you literally wiggle the thing out of place.

If you wanna, take apart the old box and see if theres this white resadue. if so, the guys who detailed your car ... over detailed the car and it soaked the switch. Thats what happened to mine and they dealer refunded me for the cost of the switch.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the help & guidance on the switch replacement. The new switch did the trick. The diagrams/instructions from you all were especially helpful. It gave me the nerve to tear into it without fear of breaking some expensive plastic!

Next on my list is the repair to the driver'* side rear window. It responds to the driver'* switch & the one on that door with the "click" & no window movement. Looks like it'* a candidate for the fab'd bracket repair. I plan to tear into that Sunday. That will get me to the point where all the power windows are operational.

Thanks again for the GREAT help.

Alldata has apparently reworked their site so many of their links for the 2003 demo vehicle have been changed. Here'* the current link for that.
Power Window Switch Replacement - Rear Door

It can be a handy reference, as has almost all of the information that you can get by buying a subscription. If you want more, go to http://www.alldatadiy.com/ then click on demo sample data, and select the 2003 Bonneville. It will give you a list of areas, as well as a search function toward the bottom of the page that does a good job.
