Default popping sound in steering wheel

I have an 01 SE and whenever I turn the steering wheel to the left, I can feel this little popping in my steering wheel. It doesnt make a noise in or outside of the car but I can feel it. Is this a front axle problem or maybe something in the steering? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

Sure sounds like the classic "Intermediate Shaft" issue that they all have. Mine has 84K on it and I need to pull mine and grease it. I checked the part and it'* $195 from GM Parts Direct (generally half the price of dealer parts), but even the new part will do it after time.

http://www.colinkraft.com/shaft.php

here is the FIX? to the clunking sound in the steering, at slow speed turning, as in parking lots.

I had the same problem with my 2000 SSEi. Before removing the intermediate shaft I figured I'd try squirting some WD40 in around the steering shaft under the dust boot where it goes through the floor to the rack and pinion. It worked. The noise is gone. It'* been 3 months and the noise hasn't returned.....

I had my dealer service my '00 SSEi '* intermediate shaft with only 14,000 on the car. I called 6 months later and told them it was happening again and he said I could bring it back, but it would keep occurring as the grease was thinned out. He said it wouldn't cause a long-term problem.

Since they messed up my dash a bit when doing the job, I decided to let it go. The car is now at 75,475 miles and the problem is still the same as it was then...it never got worse or caused any other issues.

Maybe lucky, I don't know.
