P1811! What to do?!?
 
Alright, so I've been having some tranny trouble shifting from 1>2 and 2>3. Knew it was the P1811 and today it was confirmed. Took it to a small tranny shop and the guy told me it wasn't worth it to take apart the tranny for the pressure solenoid since at 100k the tranny is prolly gonna go soon anyways. He also said my motor mounts are ALL REALLY BAD. The engine and tranny are moving around WAY TOO much. He made it sound as if I should just get rid of the car altogether. He also said if I want to keep the car I should just get all the mounts replaced and leave it at that. So the question is: Should I?

Do you want to keep the car? Do you care about the car?

Personally..I'd discount a lot of what he said, on the way you describe it alone. Get a second or third opinion at the least. If the mounts are bad and you plan on keeping and driving the car fix them. If the trans is bad and you plan to keep the car...fix it.

Personally...I'd like to see something happen or some of the advice given already followed.

You mean the Hockey Puck mount? Yeah, I mean I have no problem with changing out the mount, I'm sure its bad at this point. But the question is should I change out the mount and ignore the P1811? Will the mount replacement solve the shifting problem? From what I understand the engine/tranny is moving too much causing the fluid to move away from the filter thus causing the abrupt shift.

Well, it's not that much trouble to replace those mounts and certainly worth it for two reasons.

#1. Relatively inexpensive fix that may make your shift problems go away.

#2. It will prevent further damage to other parts.

Now if you are just looking for a reason to get a new car, then by all means leave it as is. But it would still be easier to sell the car with those mounts fixed.

Well, I took care of it. Got the new Pressure Control Solenoid, a new trans. mount (as mine was split in two) and some new rear brakes to boot! JUST FYI. :-)

Excellent! Was the Trans mount the only one bad?

Yes. Apparently the others had been replaced before i bought the car last year. It feels 100% better. Though in total I spent over a grand today.

Im glad your trans was able to be fixed at a relatively cheap price, ive got the same code in franky's computer but im going to replace the transmission, its too far gone to be fixed now.
