Default P0102 code but car runs fine ??

2002 SLE 114K miles. Code says: "P0102 mass or volume air flow circuit low input". The "service engine soon" light started coming on about a week ago. It goes off some times for a few hours, then comes back on on the next start-up. Always the same code: P0102. The car runs exactly like it always did and gets 27 MPG on the dot like always. Lower and upper IM'* replaced long ago, and new air filter in place. The dealer wants $ 125 just to diagnose ! I read all the posts on this. Is this the low voltage code ? What is the easiest way to fix this for good ? I would rather replace the MAF for $ 200 than spend $ 125 just to be told I needed to shell out another $ 200 for the unit. And I don't want to spend hours with my multimeter fiddling with it.

Get some MAF cleaner from the local auto parts store. Clean the MAF with the spray, but do not wipe the wire or touch it. Let the MAF dry, clear the codes, plug in the MAF and try it out.

Got MAF cleaner and special tool to remove the MAF. Sprayed it very well, let dry, re-installed. The code is still popping up - but I have only driven a few miles. I will report back after I put a few more miles on it. The car still runs perfectly - even when the code is up. Hmmmmm ? Is the MAF a component that would be expected to fail at 114K ?

I solved the problem by replacing the MAF sensor. The guy at Advance Auto sold and ordered me some other OEM sensor for $ 69.00 by mistake. When it came in and was the wrong part he gave me an in-stock aftermarket MAF without charging me more. The MAF part I got was priced at $ 189.00, so I took it and installed it. I put it in and within 50 miles the light went off, code is gone, and has stayed off after 1,000+ miles driven. Car still runs fine - no difference - just the light is off now.
