i would think that it would be a coolant leak, but anything is possible

I don't think so. There isn't even any oil that goes up there. It could be from the head and valve cover gaskets, oil pan, oil filter flang, etc. My 2000 leaks like a porcupine in a rubber boat. I have oil all over the driveway and the more gaskets that I change the more the stupid thing leaks. I have just learned to put something down in the driveway and check the oil every week.

its very possible, its most likey going to be the valve cover gaskets, it might be worthwhile to have it checked by someone else

It is possible that it could be leaking from the ends of the LIM. It would be a splash type leak, as the oil is not under pressure there. It'* not unheard of for that to happen and from where you're saying the oil is, that'* what I'd bet the problem is.

Actually........It is very possible for oil to seep out at the intake. Yes oil is present there...it'* splashing around the balance shaft (right under the intake seals.

In the case of my car (same intake gasket design) I replaced the valve cover gaskets, cleaned it down and a little later smelled more oil. My engine was seeping at the driverside...aka..same side you are having an issue with.

I would suggest to anyone changing lower intake gaskets on an L36 (your motor) to seriously consider and look into the options for upper intake replacement while you are working on it. Also.. change the valve cover gaskets while it is apart. That way you've cured the two most common leak points at one time and will be happy and leak free for years.

I also had to change the lim gasket and the valve cover gasket in my 2000 ssei at around 83k miles. I had a coolant leak and an oil leak.
