Default ODB emmisions inspection

i live in N.Y state and requires the car to be scanned through the state computer in order to pass inspection.Ok so i went to get car inspected "no engine light was on" and the car failed because the monitoring system was not ready had the following that were not ready, catalyst system, egr system,o2 sensor,o2 sensor heater, emmision system, does any one know if one of these things would cause all the monitoring to not be ready??? this is driving me out of my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you,
scott.

Did you have your battery disconnected within the last day or so?

no i brought the car to advanced auto and reset the code then went and did the inspection but the state computer picked up all the monitors were not ready, but i guess the car has to go through a drive cycle for like 100+ miles,i cannot complete a drive cycle becuase the engine light will come back on after 70-100 miles for a po420,i dont understand the part where all five systems would not be ready for one code.

When you reset codes you reset the whole monitoring system, I did that to my brothers GP but they said they could do the dyno tailpipe test to get it done that day but this was in Ohio

WHere in NY are you?

And They are correct. you need to cycle the computer like 50 times after clearing all the codes. I am not sure how many stops and start, or how many miles this is, but I believe you can go 15-25 miles and it will be fine.

As for the code, I would check the thread posted, or make a new thread if that gets you no where.

i am 5 miles from albany, about the code i was standing in back of my car this morning smoking a cig waiting for the car to warm up,i happend to look down at the tail pipe and where the pipe meets the muffler coming from the engine side i noticed it was leaking steam drops on the ground so i looked under car and their is steam coming out the back of the muffler where the pipe and muffler connect, could this kick the code??

No those are vents in the muffler to let out moisture and I would say it is too far downstream for the car to pick anything up unless it was a massive hole

I'm thinking maybe a bad O2 sensor and if its not that a plugged cat

if that cat was plugged wouldnt the car run really bad? i had a freind who had a bad cat and his car would not go over 30 becuase their was so much back pressure.

It would depend how clogged, you could be just below the threshold of setting the code, but right now I'm leaning towards the O2 sensor
