Default New or Reman half shafts???

I am about to replace both axle half shafts on my 2000 Bonneville. Does anyone have any experience and/or opinions on what is a better way to go. The pricing seems to be about the same. I have fears of cheap offshore new halfshafts quickly failing. Another thought is a cheaply done cosmetic rebuild job. I have been looking a Autozone Duralast shafts.

There seems to be 2 different shafts depending on the axle ratio FQ3 or F83. I assume there is a chart on the car somewhere that will tell me the details.

Thanks for any info that you can provide. Billk

If you buy from Auto Zone, you get what you pay for. Save yourself a headache and go to O Reilly'* for some new half shafts.

Best part is, around here, the Oreilly new half shafts are cheaper than the Autozone remans. Putting a pair of new ones in mine while the motor is out.

I have run new shafts on my 00 SE and have only had to REreplace the passenger side only because of the outer boot splitting. Oreilley'* new shafts w/lifetime warranty FTW!

148K miles and DS....1 replacement
PS....2 replacements

There was NO core charge either on the new shafts.

Default half shafts

I think I am going to go with the new shafts. I find that I have the F83 3.05 axle ratio. Thanks to all for the help. Billk

I used a new but non-GM part. It works fine and saved me over a $ 100. Since I had it done at a dealer, I can't remember what it was, but it solved my problem. I would say go new, no matter what the brand.

I replaced my driver'* side half shaft this past weekend. I originally priced Autzone but then decided to check Oreily'*. It was less than Autozone'* even with my $20 credit!
