Default NEW MODS

I JUST BOUGHT A 2000 SSEI AND WAS WONDERING WHAT MODS I COULD DO WITHOUT CHANGING OR NEGATIVELY EFFECTING THE MOTOR. I PLAN ON DOING THE SUPERCHARGER PULLEY AND BELT, AND A COLD AIR INTAKE. WHAT IS THE SMALLEST PULLEY I CAN USE WITH THIS SETUP WITHOUT HARMING THE CAR? ALSO, IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT SHOULD GO ALONG WITH THE PULLEY AND AIR FILTER? PLEASE HELP.

A 3.4 is the smallest you want to put on and you will probalby see KR with that. Along with the pulley you will need a 715 Supercharger belt, probably cooler plugs, a 180 t-stat, some sort of cooler air induction (I prefer fenderwell intake kits), and a PCM. Net gains should be around 30-40 horsepower.

Your factory exhaust is plenty free flowing for a long while yet.

The smallest pulley I would recommend using with just an intake would be a 3.5" pulley. However, I always recommend that when getting a pulley that you get a modular pulley system instead of a press on pulley, because it is likely that in the future you will want to drop to a small pulley, and then it will easily bolt on instead of having to pull it off with a puller again. The problem with this is the biggest pulley you can get for a modular pulley system is typically a 3.4" pulley. But if you do an intake, colder plugs, colder t-stat, along with a high flow cat, and a reprogrammed PCM you should easily be able to run a 3.4" pulley with no problems. But, if you don't want to do all these mods (everything I listed would EASILY top $500 not including the intake) then I recommend a 3.5 pulley so you don't get KR, and keep in mind that you MUST run premium gas.

WHAT SIZE IS THE STOCK PULLEY AND HOW MUCH OF A HP GAIN SHOULD I EXPECT WITH A 3.5 AND A COLD AIR INTAKE? ARE YOU SURE THIS WOULD BE ALL THAT I NEED IF I ALWAYS RUN PREMIUM GAS?

A stock pulley is a 3.8" and should give ~7psi boost. A 3.5" pulley will raise your boost to ~10.5psi or so and should give a ~20hp gain. With premium gas you should get next to no KR with this setup, and it would be perfectly fine. You won't damage anything.

You would need a larger supercharger tensioner with a 3.5 pulley to maintain proper belt tension (even then it might be a little loose). Any time you add boost you want to keep the engine cooler. Cooler plugs and a 180 T-stat are highly recommended.

KR is knock retard. PCM is powertrain control module.

When detonation in the cyilnders occurs, the PCM retards timing to get get it under control. This causes a loss in performance. The PCM is the brains of the engine and controls among other things, timing, fueling, ability to shift, etc...
