Default New guy needing bonny help.

Hi, new guy here.

I hate to start off on the forum by askig for help but............... HELP!!!!

I just bought a 2000 SSEI with 67000 miles from my dad a couple months ago and love the car. In addition I own an 05 GTO and a 1500 Chevy crew cab so I am a GM guy to the bone. When I bought the SSEI from dad I knew that it had some issues but over the last few weeks the issues have gotten worse and are pretty much constant now.

The first thing in the morning I get in the car and start it up. The car starts and revs up and then the RPM’* drop off and the car almost stalls (and has stalled on a couple occasions) spits and sputters and the after a few seconds comes to a smooth idle. Then while driving down the road with the speed control set accelerating up a hill the car looses speed and starts to shutter. I’ve also noticed that when I get to where I’m going that it does have a strong exhaust odder coming from the car. So of course dad and I did the plugs, wires, filters and no change. The SES light is on and has been on since I bought the car. The codes that are set are HO (O2 sensor) code on both 1 and 2 sensors and an EVAP code, which I was told was probably the gas cap but I don’t know. Sorry I don’t remember the exact code numbers.

Other then these problems the car runs fine. The temp, oil, boost, and amp show to be normal.

Thanks for you help

Get the codes rescanned and report back with the all the code numbers. That'* the best place to start. We can then dive in deeper, code by code.

AutoZone will scan your car for free.

Gas cap for the evap code is a strong possibility. Most of the evap codes have been for the gas cap.

On the O2 codes, if an O2 sensor has failed, maybe this could be causing the starting/climbing surge you are seeing.

Definitely get the exact codes so we can pinpoint the possible faults and keep you from buying parts that may not be needed.

OK here’* what I’ve got.

1st code is P0131 O2 sensor circuit low voltage (bank 1 sensor 1)
2nd code is P0137 O2 sensor circuit low voltage (bank 1 sensor 2)

I know that O2 sensors are rarely the problem so what are some other suggestions and could these codes be causing my problems?

Thanks for your help…

Well, i wouldn't rule out the O2 sensors....But.....Having them both reading low voltage kinda baffles me a bit.....

The exhaust smell sounds like a bad O2 or a cat....

It'* possible the front O2 sensor failed and the catalytic has become wiped out. It would explain for the possible studdering, if the cat was plugged and both O2'* were bad.

The rear O2'* primary purpose is to check the emissions out of the cat, to verify the cat is working properly, right?
