Okay, here'* the poop: I had Daisy towed to a repair shop whereupon they charged me $580 to pull the engine and diagnose the issue. They said, for all intents and purposes, it'* a stuck valve. There IS a problem with the lifter--it'* just flapping around--but the main issue is the valve. To repair the valve, it will cost me $3500 in labor and parts. Then the guy said he had an extra motor with 20k miles on it he can install for a grand more. So for $4500, I can get a "new" engine with 20k miles on it. I don't know what he thought he saw comin' toward him, but I wasn't born yesterday. I understand with a supercharged engine comes great responsibility, but this all seems rather excessive, don't you think?

Anyone here in the Seattle area who works on Bonnevilles?

01BonneSC, I have family in Sycamore! I'm from Illinois and moved to WA in November. I used to work at UTI. I'm wishing I was still there right about now.

That'* the cost of not being able to do repairs yourself. :(

Shop labour is a killer.

This issue has nothing to do with it being supercharged. In many respects, the SC motors are more reliable because of the lack of the troublesome UIM.

I'd strongly suggest a second opinion, or at least ask him the compression numbers. Or have him SHOW you the damage.

Not sure why it would cost you $580 bucks to get a bad lifter diagnosed? It should take about 15 minutes to find the dead cylinder and another 1/2 hour to pop the top and scope it out? I would have the car brought to someone you can trust. Get it out of there ASAP. Also, I'm sure they didn't have to pull the motor to figure any of this out. I put an 80k motor in my last bonnie (1991 SSEI) for 350 bucks. I put it in myself, but the pick n pull has these motors laying around all day long as they run forever.

I see yu reside in Washington...............someone should be able to put in a used mota for under a grand......I'm not at all convinced at this point you have a bad valve though, just doesn't happen on these cars.
