Default Muffler Question

Hey Guys,

I've located a '00 SSEi exhaust system and had a quick question about the mufflers. I'm assuming they are the same muffler as what is on my SE, just two of them? I know they are both Bosals but I didn't know if they were tuned different with regard to sound, etc. Sounds like I can even get the original Y-pipe. I can't wait!

**ADDED--Also, I noticed a heat shield above the muffler on my SE. Do the SLE'* and SSEi'* have a shield on the left as well? Didn't know if there was anything sensitive to protect on the left. I think I noticed some wiring above my right muffler, thus the shield.

Thanks,

Mark

Harry, I'm not sure how the tail pipes will fit? You should be alright installing the "Y" and mufflers, but the SE rear bumper doesn't have the cut outs to accommodate the tail pipes.

Mark.I think he'd be ok if he left the back end of the exhaust a little low. I think..

I knew going in the lack out cutouts on the bumper might be an issue. From these exhaust layouts I found, it appears the level of both systems would be close to the same. The SE muffler is definitely much taller than the dual exhaust mufflers. Should be able to make it work. Hopefully, I won't have to hack off the tips.

Your opinions are welcome.

Well, I guess if you go to a reputable installer, they should be able to work around the absense of cut outs by re-alighning or adjusting the exhaust as required. Good Luck with the project, put up some pix when completed.

It would appear they will fit just fine, may just hang kind of low without the coves in the rear fascia. Just have to wait and see. I'll definitely put some pics up.

May end up looking better without the tips on it and just go for subtle look. I'm not too worried about having flashy tips. Just wanted to do it more to balance out the rear.

im pretty sure that the rear bumper cover extends further down on the SLE/SSEis, and you should be fine because the SSEi exhaust will be below the bumper where on an SLE/SSEi the bumper extends downward around the exhaust
