Default Misfire 2002 Bonneville SSEi - DarkRiddles

A new user messaged me needing some help posting, so I figured I'd create the thread for him. Please do what you can to help him out.

Hey I need some help with my 2002 Bonneville SSEI. I want to post my own message on here, but I am not sure how yet. My car is misfiring in port 3. Spark plug is wet with gas and the wire is getting spark from Coil pack to to wire. I put fresh AC delco iridum core plugs and bosch wires in it. Fresh oil change. Not sure what else could be the issue. The super charger belt is not connected, waiting on the new tensioner for that. Also I do believe it needs a head gasket, but I only have one miss fire and thats cylinder 3. Also If I may need a new motor, would it be a good idea to do a bottom end swap with a non super charged motor? I forget the positives that come with that. I was also considering swapping with a 3800 Series 3

Things to check for a misfire. You know it'* cylinder 3, so that helps. One member pointed out that he had a misfire on the same cylinder, turned out to be oil dripping down from the fill cap, and that was shorting out that plug. If the plug is wet with fuel, then it'* not the injector. That leaves a bad plug, they can fail right out of the box, so check it. Test the plug wire and the coil for that plug. Just because you have spark, does not mean you have good spark. If all this tests out good, then your getting down to a mechanical issue such as a broken valve spring.

Injector stuck at full open can flood the cylinder and leave a plug wet....right?

I'd check the plug, ensure the wire si carrying the spark to the cylinder/plug and check the injector. It'* not common for stock springs on unmodified cars to break. It can happen, but injector is probably a bit more likely.

I think your right, a broken spring wouldn't leave a plug wet. He can also swap injectors 1 and 2 and see if the problem follows.

Well.. I can see where it might, no compression might not fire the charge...but it sounds like it'* overly wet. I dunno..I can see both ways, figure the broken spring would probably be noisy.

Depends on how it broke too. Remember, I had two broken springs in my shop, neither one made a sound and passed every test I threw at it until the valve cover was pulled.

you can also trade the plug wire and coils to see if the problem moves to the cyl you traded to. if all that doesnt work why do you say you need a head gasket? that could be dripping stuff into the cyl and causing misfire. when my intake man went thats all i was getting was a cyl misfire code.
