Hi Guys,

I just checked my oil and added a little bit to top it off. When I opened the oil fill cap, I noticed some of the dreaded brownish-white emulsion in the oil filler tube. Then I looked at the coolant and noticed that the overflow bottle was empty. I know that this is a recent occurrence since I just added oil about 500 miles ago. Based on looking around on this site, I assume that it is time to replace the lower intake manifold gasket. Assuming that is the case, how long a job is it? I am fairly handy at fixing cars but have never done anything like this before. Also, would I just need to buy the lower intake manifold gasket or do I have to buy both the upper and lower gaskets? I can't seem to buy a break with this car, earlier this year it was the tranny and now this. The car only has 55k on her and runs well. The oil pressure is good as well. I can't afford anything else right now, so I guess it is time to break open the tool box! Thanks.

You will need the LIM gaskets, get the aluminum framed gaskets, not the plastic ones. You will also need the UIM gaskets and a throttle body gasket. I can do the job in about 2 hours, but I say give yourself 4 hours. There'* a write up in tech info on changing the LIM gaskets to help walk you threw the job.

You"ll know when you pull the injectors out if they need replacing or not, they could be dry or cracked. I did this job on my SSEi about 4 months ago, (the walk through in tech info is very helpful) I went ahead and replaced my o-rings simply because i knew they had never been done b4.

Just need to look at the O rings. If they look cracked, replace them. If nice and smooth, then they should be fine.

I have just one more question to ask. How do I clean out the water/coolant droplets that have accumulated in the filler cap area (under the valve cover)? There does not appear to be a lot, but I have seen a little. Thanks.

You tend to see build up like that when it'* colder out, also see that if the PCV valve isn't working right.

Question

Hi Guys,

Yesterday, I tried to remove the pcv valve to check to see if it is operating alright and not the cause of the small amount of moisture that I periodically see in the oil fill tube. I removed the electrical connection from the MAP sensor. Then I went to remove the MAP sensor, but all that I ended up doing was breaking off one of the plastic clips on the side. My question is this, how do you remove the MAP sensor, and ultimately, the pcv valve? Does the MAP sensor just lift out or does it need to be twisted, etc. ? The car was warm in an attempt to help not break off any of the plastic clips, but it did not seem to matter. Thanks for your assistance.

The MAP sensor twists on mine (00). There are two ears which lock it in.
