Default Trunk center piece...condensation

Hey all -
I've been noticing a bunch of condensation getting in center piece on my trunk lid (the red and amber plastic piece). Looks like it'* got a small leak in it somewhere. Anyone else ever have this problem? Any ideas on how to find the problem spot?

I have the exact same problem.......

Someone told me it was from a crack in the plastic, but I looked at mine and couldn't find one...... It sure annoys the crap out of me though

Guys, there is a sticky (Common Problems) up top of this Forum. Trunk leaks, door leaks etc. are addressed in that thread as are other known problems. You may have to remove that center bezel on the trunk lid to inspect.

While not the same. There might be commonalities in the 96-99 center tail. In working on them I have noticed in one or two spots there is a hole that is covered by a sticker.

I would assume the condensation to be either a light socket not sealing 100% or one of those holes is uncovered by the sticker.

To fix it up, check both and let the light dry in a low humidity area, then reseal the possible problem areas.

I had the same problem with my '00 SE. It had a small crack that let in water. I replaced the piece thing with a used one from ebay. BTW - I still have the old one if you want to try to fix it.

It is very easy to remove, just pop off the inside matting and I think it'* 4 nuts (it'* been a couple years) to remove and the piece comes off.

To find the leak, I'd try putting the whole piece under water and hope it bubbled. It'* probably too long for a bathtub, but a cheap kid'* pool should do the trick.

I had the same problem with mine. When I had it off to clear the tail lights I uncovered a hole that had a little round sticker on it to allow it to act as a vent. It took a couple of warm days but eventually all the moisture evaporated out. Since then, I've no longer had the problem. As to the root cause, I don't know, but that'* how I got around it.
