Can you tell me what problems they seem to have?
What is better and what is worse about each year?
Problems?

anything is helpful

Also beware of neck muscle strain caused by excessive acceleration forces.

Not that our window regs and intermediate shafts shouldnt be on this list.

True, True!!! I also think the 03 is one of the better years.
The 02-03 has better seating, not to mention dual heated seats, cleaner placement of the TC button, and most likely you'll still have a factory warranty still.
I test drove an 03 last weekend when I visited Andrew in Windom. I thought I got a good price out of them when they said $18k with 30k miles, but just this afternoon I found a black 03 SSEi with 34k miles for $14.5k!!!!! I know I shouldn't and probably won't, but for that price I could take the car, park my SLE SC, drive the 03 for 6-8 months putting on about 5-10k, and turn around and sell it for a profit. Loss though would be in the insurance department -a little to rich for my taste.

A low mileage 99 would be perfect though also if you want to do any modding. It'll still be tight, fresh, and faster than a Y2k+ with the same mileage and mods. The 96-99'* are a very classy, sporty looking car for an American family sedan, and the 99 got a few updates (better tensioner pulleys, newer TB and sensors, and a few other things).
Not to mention I had a 99 already and today I got a dose of 'why I miss that car' when I test drove it (177k and it still purrs like a kitten).

Nick...go for it! When you get the SSEi though. Drive it for a while.. then order some parts and go hang out with Bob for a weekend.
