This is not true.. You can use a standard windshield with the HUD, just the reflection will not be as bright as if there was the holographic coating. I have a few friends that put HUD systems in their car and it looked fine.. About the only time I noticed the reflection to be dimmer was in direct sunlight.

Decided not to pursue this project at this time. If anyone here has been looking at the auction go ahead and bid away, I am not going to bid. Good deal...

Good price though.
You don't need a HUD windshield. I replaced mine with a regular windshield and it works fine.
Are you speaking of

1) your current SSEi HUD that you replaced

2) a previous car

3) your ssei never had an HUD and you installed one

If its your currnt car, I thought that all SSEi'* had HUD
My 02 SSEI with HUD had a crack in the windshield and needed to be replaced. I checked the GP forums and the corvette forums and found the concensus was that the HUD will work fine on a regular windshield. I decided to save $400 and go with the regular windshield and I can tell you that it works as well as it did with the HUD windshield.

Thanks for sharing Blocker44, I guess for $400 a bit o glare is worth it as long it you can still read it.

I have windshield insurance with $100 deductable, I ask for the hud glass.

I've seen both. I much prefer the proper windshield. At night, you can see a ghosted image on the outer surface and it has the effect of blurring the image. Very irritating.

I also have the glass insurance. Good thing, with the HUD and heated WS, it'* 1400 bucks.

You can have a small area of the inside of the WS coated optically for the HUD on a non-hud ws, and I strongly reccommend doing this.
