It'* quite simple to plumb in a mechanical gauge to get a true reading, what you shouldn't do is ignore any change in reading from any guage fitted, oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage or whatever else is fitted.
Just about the only thing that will send oil pressure up is a bad releif valve. If you think a gauge is reading wrong get it checked out and fix the problem, after all they are there to warn you something is amiss.
