Default HELP! Strange things happening when I start my 2002 SSEi...

Hi:

Over the last two days, several "strange" things have been happening when I start my 2002 SSEi.

I start the car and:

1. The Calibrate Compass message comes on in the information center.
2. The Trac Off light comes on.
3. The temperature display window is blank.

But when I put the car in reverse to back out of the driveway - everything then goes back to normal - the compass is right, the Trac Off light goes off, the temperature display windows lights up and shows the correct temperature, etc.

The car dives normally.

Until I then come to start it again and the strange things start all over again.

Any ideas?

HELP!

Isn't as active as it once was? Your last post date is just over a year ago.

It seems you may have one of those rare electrical gremlins that no one has seen before. So, it would be safe to assume no one has any ideas. The best thing I can offer is to take it to a dealership and have them scan for any body codes. Not P codes, but the B codes. I'm not aware of any B codes that would illuminate the check engine light or anything, so gremlins like yours would call for a dealer diagnostic. Autozone doesn't have the capability to do enhanced diagnostics.

"2. The Trac Off light comes on."

I had this happen over a year ago for about a month, off and on. It stopped happening without any repairs and hasn't happened since. You MAY be looking at more than one issue, although when you put the car in reverse, all the problems go away.

You may want to start looking at patterns of when this happens, outside temperature, how long the vehicle has been sitting, are you starting it in the dark and does it only happen in the dark, anything that can begin the isolation process. Since it doesn't effect your reliability, safety or performance- seems you have time to work this through.

Strange... it only seemed to do it in the winter months when it got extremely cold - and then warmed up - it would do it...

I hasn't done it since the weather got warmer though...

VERY strange...

If I ad to look at this one I would start at the fire wall my dad had 94 olds with a pinched wire harness that caused some odd tings to happen at random.
