hey y'all. i just drove home from work. stopped by advance auto to pick up an oil filter. both times car started fine. i just parked in front of my apartment. put it in park and turned it off. felt kinda weird, so i tried to start it again. the key went to the accesory position, but no further. did my ignition cylinder(which i already had a dealership replace right after i got the car) go bad again? or could it be the chip in the key went bad? or is there a fuse that is involved in that system? any suggestions would be apprieciated, i dont know how im gonna go to work in two days if i havent figured this out.
thanks

yeah, its in park. when i had the cylinder replaced before, it turned past ACC, but it acted like it wasnt reading the chip. this is more like it physically can't turn, like maybe the switch connected to the brake or shifter is not working. :?
edit: just looked at the procedure to change the ignition lock cylinder on all data. that looks like a MAJOR PITA! I hope its something else, i may have to have this thing towed to a stealership or something.

Do you spray anything in your lock cylinder? Orrrrrrrrr do you have 5 lbs of keys that apply a lot of force on the cylinder and cause it to fail?
I'm wondering because of the two failures on your car. It isn't overly common for a failure in the 00'*.

Misalignment tyipcally keeps it from rotating to lock and being removed. This sounds like it can't be rotated forward to start the car either. The shifter cable should not be able to affect that type of movement.

i havent sprayed anything in the cylinder. i do have three regular size keys(including the car key), two small keys(locker &mailbox), car remote, and a small beer opener. im going to try to start it again today. ill post the results later. its been about a year, would it be under warranty from the dealership still? it was changed at a GM dealership.

Sorry to hear that. being in the dash, there'* probably not too much in the way. I'm assuming they didn't worry about protecting it from theives with the security learn procedure needing to be done if the key didn't match.
