Yes. On my '01 SSEi this was the main cause of me getting a "check gas cap" warning on the first couple of tanks.............until I got educated.

May be no relation to your problem, but I understand that sloshing fuel into the vacuum test hose (located near the fill neck) can cause some weird symptoms until the engine is start-cycled several times.
