Default Got a new SES light

Well this morning My SES light came back up. I noticed when I acceplerate hard it sounds like a flapping sounds from the engine. I am going to take it to autozone to check the code and let you all know what the code is. It seems to be running kinda rough this morning. Also the service engine light seems to flash while I am driving. Could it be possible putting low grade fuel in it..I used 89 octance could that be the problem. I k now I am supposed to use the 93 for the supercharger. I will let you know what the code pulls. I hope it is nothing serious.

Flashing SES is a misfire. Post the code. That should help us help you.

You need to run premium to avoid pre detonation in that engine. Running low and mid grade will shorten the life of your car. Even when fuel was 4 bucks a gal I would still run premium. GM said use premium for a reason

Higher compression engines need the higher octane for the complete burn

There'* a good chance that running that low of octane gas is the culprit behind the misfire. The PCM is probably seing the knock/ping and compensating.

Top your tank off with 93 and keep using that, or 91 if that'* the best you have. Don't waste your time with those cans of octane boost, it'* junk. I mix my own race gas and you need to add a LOT of octane to bring it up.

Too little octane or too much octane = bad news. Always stick with manufacturers recommendations for octane level. If in an emergency and you need gas and there is no higher octane available, put in just enough regular to get you to the next station that has the higher octane and top it off.

Wife drove our SSEi 1st 100,000 miles and she only used 87 octane. So far no engine troubles, now at 130,000 miles. I usually put in premium but occasionally I forget. My flashing SES light was corrossion under the the #5 spark plug wire on the coil side.

anyone want to guess what the code is going to be before I take it to autozone. I am soooo hoping it is because of the fuel and no permanent damage was done.

The autozone people say to bring it in to check the codes and if it was a low grade fuel to put some octance booster in it to help it out...what do you all think..I am only 1/3 down on gas so it would be a while before the gas is low enough again to put in high quality.
