Fuel sender replacement help
Ok guys I got the fuel level sender for my wife'* 2000 Bonneville and was going to replace it myself but ran into a couple of snags. First off, what is the procedure for relieving the fuel pressure? I just wrapped a wrag around the fuel line going into the tank and slowly removed the fuel line but that caused a lot of fuel to blow out. The other thing is removing the locking ring to access the sender/pump assembly. Is there a special tool for removing this thing? I gave up, reconnected the fuel lines and decided to wait until I had more info on replacing the sender unit. Thanks for your help. DG
Press the shrader valve on the fuel rail under the plastic cap to relieve the pressure (into a rag).
Turn the locking ring counter clockwise with a flat bladed screwdriver and gently tap it around with a hammer. GENTLY. It'll only go about 10° before it unlocks. Be careful of dirt and debris. Do NOT vacuum it up or you may explode.
I taped UNDERNEATH the opening to make it not go in there, then blew the dirt out with a can of air.
You will need a new tank seal.

There is a small plastic security tab that keeps the lock ring from turning be sure to hold it out of the way with another screw driver before hammering it loose as stated above.
