Although I have never replaced a b'ville fuel pump, I did replace the pump in my old '94 Intrepid. It had the same type of access panel in the trunk. The replacement process went alittle like this:
Now I'm not sure if all of that is correct for a b'ville or not, but it has to be VERY similar.
- Run down the tank to below 1/4
- Disconnect the fuel pump relay
- Try to start the car (this will relieve any fuel pressure in the lines)
- Remove the trunk mat
- Remove the trunk access panel
- Disconnect the electrical connections and fuel lines from the top of the pump
- Loosen the band clamp that fastens the fuel pump to the tank
- Remove the fuel pump taking care not to spill the fuel that is inside the pump housing in the trunk.

I stood over the dealer mechanic while he did mine.
It is as easy as that.
One trick though is you will have to siphon the fuel out of the pump assembly before you pull it out because it does not empty (even with an empty tank) and you have to tilt it to remove it from the hole. Fuel will spill into the trunk if you don't.

OK, thanks for the tip. Sounds relatively easy, and I think I'll use a siphon pump. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from other methods in my younger years.
The dealer she bought it from has a 50% warranty parts and labor - so, she'* going to check out what they will do for her first.
