I just got the part from GMpartsDirect.com today. I ordered GM part number 15824379 for $22.52 and $10.95 shipping. The total was $33.47. This procedure saves having to replace the entire unit by replacing only the broken part. I followed the instructions here:

It took about an hour, start to finish. I had a wrestling match with the unit because it apparently expanded due to absorption of gasoline and it was bigger than the hole it comes out of. It went back in easily and now the gauge works like a charm!

Compliments aplenty!!! This fuel gauge sending unit fix definitely makes my list of ONE CLASS ACT!!! Likewise, it saved me hundreds...far exceeding my hourly wage!!! Hans, I can't say enough!!! Phenomenal pics, parts list, everything is truly fantastic.
