My dad told me about an air filter (K&N?) that is supposed to boost hp. What is it? Does it really boost 35hp?

Read the TechInfo section.

A K&N flat filter replacement will gain you about 5 hp but if you switch to a Cone filter with cold air induction, you could gain up to 20 hp.

Welcome to the club, Bro.

Yep........Welcome to a place where you can find answers to almost anything......
and stuff about Bonneville'* too.....
The K&N will help add some power.........and it lasts a long time.......lifetime if you clean it and re-oil it on occasion.......
I have the "factory" replacement in Mine......not a cone type.....
But.......My car is still under warranty so I have to be careful about what I do.
The best set-up........in my humble opinion.......is a CAI, Cold Air Induction, and you can get that from people here.
TechInfo will fill you in on more you can do to boost that power!!!
More Power.....!!!
Good luck and enjoy.

PS.....your dad must be old and wise like me.....

Yes you do have to be careful not to make the dealer aware of any performance improvements you make while under warranty.

I have the 6 year warranty and I have to remove the cone and re-intall the factory box if I have to bring it in.
So far I've only had to bring it in twice since new and the last time they didn't even notice the supercharger pulley.

Hey, sometimes you have to take risks for that feeling of attitude.

Bullet... I had just read another post you had put up about that diag tool you had bought. On the same note of warranties, if I were to go ahead and go with the 180 T-stat, would the dealer be able to see a code saying it was altered? And if that is the case should I invest in a scanner to clear these codes before I start making mods?

As long as you don't drill any holes in the 180 thermostat you should be fine and there won't be any codes.
The code that was setting for mine has disappeared now that I drive it a little longer and make sure it reaches 180 degrees....and the weather has warmed up now.
Everyone should have a code reader.
