I keep getting code 1404 and can't get rid of it. I cleaned the EGR valve really well, but that did not work. I then replaced the EGR valve and the code keeps coming back. What am I missing? BTW I am resetting the code, but it comes back after a few miles.
Check the metal hoses going to and coming from the EGR valve for cracks. They're often where you can't see them well, so try spraying throttle body cleaner around them and check for a change in engine speed/smoothness.

I have checked the EGR tube for leaks and there were no visible cracks. I will try spraying some TB cleaner on it tonight and see if I get anything.
I have not replaced anything else lately. I did the UIM/LIM changeout about 6 months ago. I know I reattached the EGR tube corretly, so that is not the cause.
I read the Alldata topic posted above, which did nothing but create more questions for me. Could this be a circuit / volatage problem?

Archon - You nailed it. TB cleaner sprayed on the EGR tube caused a slight RPM change. So, I guess there is a crack, but would a very small crack cause the SES light?
If so, I just wasted $120 on a new EGR valve.
Would that also cause any performance problems?

Have you resolved this? I just replaced my upper intake, gasket and EGR sleeve and half way to work the next morning my SES light came on. The code from Autozone was insufficient flow to EGR. The first thing I though was that the EGR sleeve I got from APN was a smaller diameter than the stock one, but why would they give you a smaller one if it isnt going to let it breath properly. I'm going to look at it this weekend.

The crack in the EGR pipe sucks air into the engine that the mass airflow sensor never sees. So, it can cause various problems as the O2 sensor tries to compensate.

I have not had a chance to do anything yet. Given the fact that I will have to pull the TB (and clean it while I have it off), it will have to wait until I have a free Saturday or Sunday.

I finally had a chance to pull the EGR tube and it has no cracks. What else could be the problem here? I have a new EGR valve, and no leaks, but this code will not go away.
