Hey, its time for an oil change, and I was wondering what the favorite filter is among us?

strictly AC Delco nothing else, after all is what came on the car from the factory

If you do a search for "Oil Filter Study" in your favorite search engine, you'll come across a filter comparison.

In my experience, I have used Purolator Pure One (the best bang for your buck), Mobil 1, AC Delco and Wix in that order. The Mobil 1 filter is $$$...

To warn you, stay away from Fram or any other filter that is know to have a cardboard end-cap inside if you do extended drains (anything over 5000 miles).

I also use the Purolator Pure One filter, but I try to get the larger one that is for the GM 4.3 liter used in the Jimmys and Blazers.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. If you have the room to run a longer filter, it will only help your oil flow and extend the life of the oil. If you change your oil every 3,000 miles, then you don't have to worry about what kind (brand) of filter you use because quite frankly, you aren't going to notice any difference in such a short amount of time.

I randomly decided to spend 10 bux and put a K & N Oil filter in........I don't really notice anything different.....I normally run Purolator'*.

4.3L Wix here for my extended changes. You'll need more oil then the 3.8 filter. (duh)

Stock size. I used to get Mobil 1 until K-Mart in town closed down. Now I usually go with Delco. I've used K&N oil fiters, but they are too spendy IMO.

I've never heard anything bad about Fram filters. Are you saying that they're no good only if you stretch oil changes beyond 3K miles? Just curious, as I've never had any problems, but I try to never miss a scheduled change either..

All the oil filter comparisons I've ever read had absolutely nothing good to say about them.

I use nothing but AC Delco filters if I can help it. I did use an STP filter once with no problems, seemed to work as well as the AC, but I only used it because autozone was out of the AC filters, and I didn't have a lot of time to go elsewhere to get one, so I just grabbed the other kind that was sitting there.
