nope wont work, i did my Buick Century in my drive way mid Feb in eastern Ontario


i forget how i did it ( was freaking cold ) but i know i had the car on jack stands im sure i wedged the car'* jack in there and held the HB with that all because of a shooty water pump threw 6 in 2 months last one shreded the Crank sensor.

FWIW, I've always used my 450ft.lbs. impact wrench for them and never had a problem. Always came off with ease. Since thats not even really that powerful of an impact, it honestly shouldn't be that hard to get off. The last time I had to pull mine off I didn't have any air tools so I put my spare tire wrench in the teeth on the flexplate and used a breaker bar with a pipe on the end of it on the crank bolt and with a little bit of convincing it came right off.

When I do them without my 625 ft-lb impact wrench, I lock the flexplate by removing the plastic cover (couple of 10mm head bolts) and slipping a BIG round phillips through one of the holes in the flex plate, then rotating the crank until it is jammed up against the block. That holds the crank in position.

I have always jacked up the car, removed the RF wheel and inner fender plastic to get a straight shot onto the pulley bolt with my impact wrench, or with hand tools. I don't think you want to try to jam the crank pulley 'cuz I think that might damage the rubber joint between the pulley and the hub of the HB, and they are about $100.

I don't know if you will have room to get a big wrench on the crank pulley nut,without removing the wheel, but you definitely need the correct socket, preferably 6-point, some sort of extension, a stout handle and a long cheater bar (mine is 4-feet).

You've gotta get the serpentine belt off, too.

After the bolt is out, you will need a harmonic balancer puller with some 6mm bolts just the right length (~3in?) to attach the puller to the HB to pull it off. Crank sensor is under pulley at the 4 O'Clock position. Disconnect electrical connection, unsnap plastic cover and unbolt 10mm bolts. Sensor out.

No way you are gonna do this without tools.
