Ok so i have had the "check gas cap" message show up for almost 4 months now i have replaced vacuam lines on the motor also the purge seilond and the u-bend line to that runs off the left side of the purge seilond i have replaced the gas cap i have an 02 ssei when i replaced the u-bend the message went away for about 2 days then came back on and threw the evap code (before was the cat converter code) i have no clue where to go next i check the hoses on the fuel pump they were all in good shape sorry for the story i wrote but want to give yall the run down on what i have done so i can fix this as fast as possible
I also had a Check Gas Cap Message on the information center. My 2003 SSEI has 165,000 and the 3/8 vacuum hose was cracking on the nipple coming out of the front driver side, if I squashed it or bent it you could see the cracks. It was also cracking where it stepped down in size. I believe you are calling it the u-bend. I ended up replacing the hole u-bend by glueing 2 different size vacuum hoses together. I've ended up replacing most of the rubber vacuum lines on the engine because they are dry rotting from the heat.

First post.. welcome me! Anywhoo. I had the same problem. Replace cas cap and as much other stuff as I could. Had to go to the stealership and they smoked the system. It was the evap canister... $1,200 cause it took them two trips to figure it out.
