I thought L67s didn't have the UIM/LIM problem?
Or is it just not as common as in the L36?

Oh no no no no no, the L67 has the same LIM gaskets as the L36, so yes they have the same problem.

Now I'm corn-fused (but it don't take much). I once wrote here that I thought (my opinion) that the N* was more reliable than either the L36 or L67 because of their IM problems. The reply to that was a list showing that the "3800" is in the top 10 motors of the century.

So does the N* have something more catastrophic than IM failure that keeps it below the L36/L67s in terms of reliability? When I was doing my homework before buying the GXP, a lot of different smart people said/wrote that one big advantage of the GXP over the SLE/SE/SSEi was that it didn't have this "big" problem.

What'* up?

I think it'* a problem on the L36 and L67'* alike due to the DexCool eating the gaskets away. This is my second motor in this car and second LIM problem at around the same mileage for both motors, so everyone needs to get those gaskets replaced and get the DexCool out of their cars. Once coolant get'* mixed with the oil from the gasket leak, your motor is pretty much shot. That'* why i'm on my second motor, but i caught this LIM leak early and my oil is fine.

Two Bonnies, to keep this thread on track, and so your question gets the proper attention, I'd suggest that you post it in the general chat area.

BoneZ, if your warranty work will be done at the dealer, they will be using the new aluminum framed LIM gasket. If not at the dealer, insist that the shop uses that gasket. It'* not any more expensive, nor harder to obtain than the plastic framed gaskets.

Trust me, i won't accept any gasket but the aluminum framed. Deal or no deal.

Yeah, you're right. But I'd rather not start that particular war right now.

So if I read correctly, the L67 has the same LIM problem, but NOT the UIM problem?
I'm asking since I may be getting a 96 SSEi soon.

Cause only the NA'* have an UIM. L67'* have a Supercharger.
So we don't have an UIM.
