Two people would help. One to wiggle the wheels while the other closely watches the linkages. The hub is the best bet, but it could be a bad inner tie rod, or ball joint. Ball joints are no easy to diagnose when worn because when the car is jacked up, the spring puts the joint under tension and it might not wiggle. Try an up and down wiggle with the car on the ground watching for play at the ball joint.

I replaced both wheel assemblies a year or two ago. this is a different feel and sound than they were.

There are different modes of failure, and a couple members have had new bearings fail in less than a year.

Don't rule it out just yet.

You didn't mention if you had an alignment. A car that is tracking wrong could vibrate when the tires scrub against each other.
Other causes could be as stated earlier, worn bearings, tie rods, ball joints, strut mounts, even a loose steering rack mount could cause this.
Did the shop check the front end the correct way by taking the spring pressure off of the lower A frame before checking for loose parts?
Lastly a bent wheel or tire belt out of round could do this. try putting the front wheels on the back and see if it goes away. Then you know if you have a bad wheel.

Words of wisdom... When I put the cheap assembly on it made a totally different vibration than the original when it failed.....

I fought this with my car for a while and spent a few dollars trying to figure it out. I replaced one bent rim, tires, road force balance, one bad wheel bearing, alignment and lower control arms (per TSB) none of this helped me. I had to do my brakes so when I pulled the rotors I had them checked and turned...turns out they were slightly warped, but not enough that I could really feel anything in the pedal. After I put the rotors back on with the new pads I found I had no more shimmy. It didn't take to long for it to come back though. I bought some new rotors about a month ago I still need to put on. But that was what I found when nothing else helped. Try a search on here, there has been a few topics on this.
