a/c compressor
i gotta tack this onto my to do list for next week
who'* got the most inexpensive NEW air compressor. Napa?
when its off, the a/c makes a loud painful squeal
when i press the a/c button, it goes away. i have the 8 button thermostat in my 2001.

Sounds almost like the compressor clutch. The clutch went out on mine about a year ago and i got a used (almost new) one from a salvage yard that deals with late model cars. I was able to get one off of a 2006 with 9k miles for $70 and they also guaranteed it to work. If you have any salvage yards near you that deal with late model cars, that may be the first and inexpensive way to go. Unless you're absolutely looking for brand new.
