Default broken gas gauge

I have a broken fuel gauge and can't open the links on the site listed above. My gauge works between F - 3/4. I think it is the sending unit in the tank? I need to check part prices.

I have a similar prob.Mine reads to just under 1/2 when full and goes down from there. Also check and make sure connections are clean at rear of guage.Don't automatically assume it'* in the tank

Good point about the cleanliness. I will check. What is the "official" name of the sender? What key word or part number do I put into the search criteria?

I found a level sensor for $140.48. GMPartsCheap.com
Does this sound like a good price or is it way out of the ballpark?

Thanks to all who have responded. The info and how_to'* are great.
