Default battery keeps going flat

can anyone help me
i have put a new battery on as the last one was the orignal and went flat
but it will not keep a charge the volt meter says it is charging but but will not hold for longer than a week
(the car does not get used very often about 2000 miles a year)
i have left it disconnected but when i tried it today there was not enough charge in it to start.
had radio repaired at the begining of the year wonder if that could be draining the battery
many thanks Paul
Mileage 66014

What was the voltage reading that you had when you measured it while charging? Did the battery go dead while disconnected? If so, it'* not because of a parasitic draw from the car. Was it fully charged when disconnected?

Paul, if the battery wasn't in full state of chrge when disconnected it may have discharged as Archon eluded to. I would rule out parasitic drain also. Dormant batteries have a tendency to discharge naturally. How long was it disconnected?

One other thing to consider..definately less of a possibilitiy.

I'm not sure on the 00+'*.. side or top post terminals?

I have seen top posts corrode in under 5 minutes to the point the car wouldn't start w/o cleaning the posts.

well it was a new battery but when i got it there was no charge in it at all
it was fully charged as we thought then put on the car and taken on a 120 mile trip
then left for a week then started all okay ,then left for another week and had gone flat
