Default backseat mounted batteries

imagine going down the road ,hearing a "thump" and looking in the rearview mirror and seeing your child( in the car seat) gone!!!! My girlfriend was using my car and i got a call at work that the car wouldn't start, so i stopped and got a new one ,since mine is a 2001 ssei ,i figured the battery was done for.when i lifted the back beat ,i was looking at my driveway through the floor. the holes were 3inches apiece and looked like a figure 8. i called the pontiac dealer who is supposed to get back to me. so if anyone you know has a battery under the seat, have them check !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! had i known this was possible, i would have done the preventive maint on the area. there'* no salt on the roads here,so thats not the cause. insp the vent system for proper operation ,otherwise you'll wind up with holes in the floor like i did

Moving to 2000-2005. Please don't post mechanical problems in the Performance section.

Can you also put your year and model in your signature (profile link at the top of the page).

I'm assuming that the battery was not a maintenance free sealed battery then huh?

Cubguy, did the vent tubes somehow come loose from the battery?

The batteries in an 00+ Bonneville are maintenance free. Due to being in the car, they have a special venting system that must vent to the exterior of the car to keep the car from filling will fumes from the battery. A battery that is located under the hood does not require special venting due to it'* location outside of the passenger compartment.
