Default oil pressure

have an 02 ssei and when i drive it the pressure starts at a lil above 40 which is fine but when i stop it drops almost to 20. It even has steam coming out of the engine its not overheating i know that much it smells like burning oil but there is no leak. Any help would be awesome

Hi and welcome..

First thing would be to check the level, color and texture of the oil. Holler back with that.

Low oil pressure is bad, most oil pressure sensors fail to the high side (~120+). Whenever low is viewed and the oil is in good shape, oil changes have been kept up, we suggest having the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge asap.

Low oil pressure can lead to bearing failure and eventually a bad motor.

First thing to check obviously would be your oil level. I would almost bet that your valve cover gaskets are bad and you're leaking oil onto the engine which is burning off of the engine.

Leaky valve cover gaskets may cause some smoke, but will not cause low oil pressure.

It will cause low oil pressure if enough oil has leaked out. I'm only speaking from experience since my valve cover gaskets are currently leaking, albeit not too bad, and i can't afford to replace them.
