Default Automatic Level Control

This is on my top five list of things I love about this car.

I have seen some other makes of cars on the road with two people sitting in the back seat, and the car would be sagging down the road. This in my opinion really takes away from the beauty of the car.

The Nissan Altima comes to mind. Every time I see one of those with people riding in the back seat, the thing would be sagging. I think to myself, what a shame.

I never have to worry about my LeSabre sagging, and you Bonneville guys are blessed as well.

on an 00+ the pump is suppose to run 30sec after every startup to make sure that there is air primed in the system... regardless of current system level

this is because in the 00, the rear suspension uses air SHOCKS not struts, and therefore do not support the actual vehicle. When you loose air pressure with ths shock set up the rear end will drop little or none if there is no weight in the trunk. whereas a pre-2000 model will lower with a decrease in pressure, because it is a strut which actually supports the vehicle

The pump runs after each new turn of the ignition key. You should be able to make it run by just inserting key, turning to on, and waiting for 40-50 seconds. The pum p will run for 5-10 seconds establishing that it has the rear raised to the right level.

Can you explain the shocks instead of struts? My 03 has struts just like my 98.

no, the 03 has SHOCKS in the rear

the difference between shocks and struts:
Struts : Support the vehicles mass, adds structure and dampens ride
Shocks: Only function is to dampens ride.

If you unbolt your rear shock while the car is off teh ground, the control arm will swing downward
On your 98, if you unbolt your strut with the vehiclke off the ground the suspension will come apart, and the spring will come out

the parts look the same, and may be the same part nuber, but the function is what designates the name.
