Default Anybody heard of this

I have a friend who has an 04 SLE. It has lees than 1000 miles and she is having a problem where occasionlly the car will not start correctly. It starts but then shutters violently. It also has a problem occasionally where when she puts it in reverse, the car will not do anything...like it'* in nuetral. The dealer told her both issues are a known problem called "garage stall shift". Anyone ever heard of this? I myself have an 02 SLE but have not experienced either issue. The dealer told her that GM is waiting on the government to approve the fix so it can be put into a recall. Would like to know if anyone has ever heard anything about this.

Garage stall is the action of putting your car in gear immediately after starting it up, generally not a good practise.

Take er back...warranty

I have no service bulletins for the 2004 model year (yet) and could not find any as described for a "garage stall", is there any error codes when it dies?

No Im not a gm employee, I'm a club member like you.
Your problem sounds unique but not something that cant be fixed. I dont why the dealer said to wait it out, maybe get a second opinion?

mine does the same thing. sometimes when i start it it putters and spits really bad. if it does this it will do it till i rev it up then it seems okay. i first thought it might be because of the stereo. i sometimes pull in the garage with it at full tilt which has the battery not in its best state and shut it off. but if you are having the same problem without the giant stereo then that is not it. i had anothere issue with the windshield wipers shuttering across the windshield in intermintant mode that is directly related to the stereo pulling more then its share of juice.

i found this thread when i was searching but it doesn't really say what ever happened with it. i'm sure it has been resolved by now and because my car is doing the same thing now, i'm interested to find out why. my car is an 01 SE w/ 67K so i'm sure the dealer wouldn't appreciate giving me a new car
