Can't say I'm getting the best mileage, though, considering we've been in the 100s for the past month, and are having to use the AC quite a bit.
My gas mileage has increased dramatically with Valvoline MaxLife 10W-40. You guys are missing out on an awesome oil.

Mac...any real proof behind the maxlife being the cause of your increased mileage?

Le'ts fire off another thread to discuss. Thanks

Either my gas guage has slowed down mysteriously, or I'm in a tail wind everywhere I go.

On a normal day I wouldn't resurect a 4 month old post, but I went searching for this same question, and wasn't sure which was worse, starting a new thread about the same thing, or digging this post up from its grave.

So here goes: I'm curious how kl_237 made out with the 5W30 oil. My oil cap (as I'm sure most do) says 5W30, but I have been using 10W30 in all of my cars. Since this is the first car I have ever owned that doesn't have an oil leak, I've never really had to think about it.

I can't ever remember which of the numbers are for hot or cold. Like, when it'* cold, is the oil a 5 or a 30? It doesn't get cold here in the Dallas area, so I'm not really concerned with that part of the oil.

thanks for the help,
Jeff

At freezing, meaning 0 celcius your oil is a 5 weight. At operating temp your oil is still a 30 weight, so its all good. I run 5w30 mobil all the time that way when winter hits i dont change a thing.

yup it'* fine to use year around,,todays SM oils are robust as ever and can
go the distance no mater what the temp is.

On a SC 38 i would use 10w30 tho
because thats what fact. specs. are

I switched to 5W30 Mobil 1 a couple of years ago when I upped the pressure by 20 psi.
