Have the 'hard upshift" issues, but no codes
Did the "clean" and "fix"> fluid/filter service with hopes of smoothing out, but have another strange issue, hoping to get feedback on

As usual, problem is intermittant. The stange thing here is>> I can drive around town with no Hrd shift and no noises
After hard shift develops, I can come to a stop in D [or R] noise that sounds like a "hampster cage squeeky wheel" at idle. As I roll forward, sound changes/ related to wheel movement> [not a brake/wheel issue and already pulled the Serpy, to eliminate accessories], no sounds at excelleration or cruising

I can shut the car off for 10 mins, re-drive and have NO hrd upsft and no noise
Under car check/listen seem to be in the oilpan/converter/trans area
Pan was relitively clean with no large filings, just grayish buildup on magnet

Anyone else experiance this with hard upshift issues

This might be a bit of a long shot, but worth a look. There'* a cover on the trans that gets you to the flex plate. Take that off and try to peek inside. Make sure the flex plate looks good. A friends truck just ripped his flex plate in two and he mentioned some add noises from that area. Here'* what he found the hard way.

I have the hard shift problem too. I've never noticed any noises though. I drive 30 miles each way to work. Driving to work, I only have a few traffic lights, so I'm moving most of the time. It does fine going to and from work. In the weekends if I drive across town and am in a lot of trafffic, it'* very obvious. Even then, it'* not until I've driven about 15 minutes before it acts up. I've also noticed that if I shut the car off and sit a couple of minutes, it shifts fine, until I drive another 15 minutes.
Again, I've never noticed the noise.
I can remember in my teenage years (in the mid 70'*) this is the time of year that everyone came to the full-service gas station that I worked at reporting funny noises. My boss was real quick to point out to me: You know Spring is here when people start riding around with their windows rolled down and they notice all these little noises that they didn't hear all winter and swear the noises just started yesterday.
Is that a possibility for the noise you're hearing?

Another thing to check the all the trans mounts. The front left mount is a good one for harsh shifts and not do it all the time.

Will take a peek, it is a metal to metal type squeek, the coming and going is the weird part
[had a 454 in the late 70'* that had a wristpin type knock.. turned out to be a crack in the flexplate as well, caught it before the 450hp twisted things up good]

How can a flex plate cause an intermittant noise that is in line with wheel rotation if the engine is doing 750 rpm at idle in gear?

Sounds like a brake related (glazing) or wheel bearing from the description.

As for the hard shifts. Please scan the car and report back on the codes. If it'* acting as you mention, there should be some stored that didn't illuminate the check engine light. Those can give us a better idea of what may be going on inside the trans.

Bill, I did say LONG SHOT, and only because I just had the same description from a friend and you can see the result.

As for the hard shifts, check the line pressure. I just dropped my line pressure from 96 to 90 and my harsh shifts cleared up.

My quess would be after hard shifts, a band or ? would not be fully releasing?
but get it in D/3/2/1 [which would be all be 1st, sitting still] and reverse>> what ever ties those two together

If it'* in all gears I still think a mount. Have someone put it in gear while you watch the engine. If it moves a lot then start checking all the mounts.

Could be a sleeve, bearing or even possibly the fluid pump. Although you said it will do it sitting still correct? There'* very little moving at that point.
