2001 Thing I'm Doin It Noon 1/25/04
Come on guys........... I only have a few hours . Can you help me out?
Well, I was not actually driving 30 miles to buy a Bonne, just to fact-find.
Well I fact-found myself an '01 SSEI w/ chrome on alum wheels, black on dark grey. 30,000 miles. Lease car. Got em from $19,980 down to $18,200. That sounds like a fair price to me; how about you?
Looks pristine inside and out, but I've got about 3 hours tomorrow AM to check out the engine and trans. for leaks and other weird stuff.
All electronics works, all things that are supposed to slide, slide and all things that are supposed to close and open do that to.
The charger and engine sounds silky smooth at idle.
About that power! I am amazed . On my test drive I punched it at about 30 mph and the front end broke loose. I did not know these things had that much power on demand. Guess I was remembering the lag response from other turbos I've driven. WOW!
When I get under that hood what should I look for other than the obvious tinkering, leaks, etc. I do know that the exhaust smells squeeky clean, with no hint of odor.
Unfamiliar with the boost gauge. What boost should I see at say.... idle, off-idle, cruise in OD and pedal to the metal.
The only think that just kills me is having to run 91 octane. If I don't put my foot in it (too often ) can I get away with 89 octane?
As always, thanks in advance.
PS - I've decided to keep the '92SSE. I still love that thing and she runs and looks sweet. Don't think I could part with her for less than 2 grand and I've heard that they are not going for that anyway.

Look for the quirkey things like heated seats and automatic load level, windows all work, seat all move (cept back ones). Make the road side accesory kit is in the trunk as well the owners manual, check for spare tire, jack etc.
Check and see if the interior air filter is present, located below passnger side winshield wiper. If you have a hoist check the front wheel bearings by shaking the front tires listen for a clunk or loose movement.

pontiac dad-
Thanks. Already checked most. Notice emerg. kit is missing (was missing in by 92 also; never found a need for it). Spare tire and jack look like never been removed. Will check the filter and bearings. I have a lot to do in 2 hrs!

if push comes to shove you can buy a new accessory kit off of ebay. i got mine for $15, after giving the lady that was selling it an awsome sob story about how id been searching for one for a long time. the bidding was at like $32, and she ended it early cuz she felt bad. im pretty picky and i wanted to make sure the car was complete and everything worked.
PS. the accessory kit has come in handy at the track many times.

Guys-
Windows ok, bearings/hubs ok, seats fine, top and bottom end of engine dry as a bone, rack- no leakage, front pads- fine, leather- fine, CABIN AIR FILTER- it'* there; looks like the front 1/4 folds under itself (is this right?). Can't check air cond. cause its 17 degrees F. Dealer said end of factory warranty is in 3 months or 6K miles, so I can check it before then and if bad GM will fix. Accessory kit- NO BIG DEAL. I have not used my '92'* in 9 years! Pulled 2 front plugs looked fine (weird little "****" on the underside of each negative top post; all were like that). SC has no leakage; manifold gaskets dry. Exhaust great (my '92 stainless is still there!).
STILL WONDERING IF I CAN USE A BRA. MY '92 (AS I'VE INDICATED WAS GREAT), BUT THE 2000+?????
Thanks for all the advice and comments I've received. I'm going to do the deed in about 1 hr. from now.
