I just replaced my fuel level sensor in my 01 sle believing that it would fix irratic or false fuel level reading on fuel gage. Much to my disappointment this did not fix the problem. Anybody have additional help or ideas?

if you have replaced the sender and its intermittent or flaky its likely your gauge pod. i would check the plug connections first, clean the pins and make sure the wires arent loose

I'll try messing with the connections again, thanks! Is the gauge pod a typical problem, sounds like a lot of work. My fuel gage when car is started goes to full and in a few seconds pegs out on empty and I know I have a half tank of gas.

empty is shorted together so try running a jumper between the wires at the tank, normal operation of the gauge is it should go E when jumpered and full open or wires out. if it stays on e you could check the connections at the dash for the same readings than you get at the tank if its good there its the cluster. cluster issues have been common on this site for the post 2000 bonnies

going through the diagrams, you wont be able to test the signal at the cluster. it goes to the pcm black/white plug c3 pin 35(black wire), and the purple goes to pin 69. so you can do the test i mentioned to see if it moves, but the wires you will have to test there. the signal goes via the data bus after that so if your other gauges are good thats not the issue. its something in the cluster

I don't know if it is related but my oil pressure gauge also pegs out to max, would this also point the overall problem to the instrument/gauge cluster?

it says the oil goes to the pcm too, but the more common thing is the bad pressure sender. its over the filter, take a look at the plug and see if its dripping oil. obviously could both be in the cluster but 6 or 7 times of ten the oil pressure gauge is bad

Thanks for the ideas i'll look into replacing the oil pressure sensor and see if that fixes oil press issue.

I thought the 2000+ B-viles had cluster issues/connection? As is with most 2000+ clusters?

could be but hard to imagine if there are only two of a bunch that go through the pcm and then are displayed via the same usb type serial connection
