Default 2000 SSEi issues including cluster

Hello all!

New owner of a 2000 Bonne SSEi with 212k on it, car runs and drives great, but I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can shed some light on.

1. This week the instrument cluster started acting strange, the tach, speedo and turn signals quit working. After reading a few posts and researching online, it looks like this is not uncommon. Should I look at the grounds or is it more likely in the cluster itself. The HUD doesn't work so I don't have any speedo until I can get this figured out. (this happened after I pulled the radio and HVAC controller to trace the cig lighter wires)

2. The boost gauge reads in the negative unless I really hammer on it. Is this a BCS issue or pressure relief?

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I plan on digging into this over the weekend.

I tore into the car after work tonight, took dash apart and cleaned all contatcts for the cluster, radio and HVAC control. Cleaned the grounding points in the engine bay under the master cylinder, under rear seat on driver'* side, and driver'* A-pillar under dash. Still no tach, speedo, turn signals, odometer doesn't work, and DIC doesn't function.

I'm leaning towards the cluster being bad.

OK, I figured out the problem. Found the Ignition 1 fuse in box under rear seat was in the wrong spot. Obviously I put it there when I was checking fuses the other day.

I am sure that didn't fix your boost gage issue. Reading negative unless you hammer on it is normal. What is the highest boost it will get to? That will tell us if you have a BCA or BCS problem.

No, the boost gauge still reads in negative most of the time. The highest it seems to go is about +2.

I was more concerned with being able to drive it legally with speedo and turn signals.

You probably have a bad BCS or BCA. Easy to diagnose. Let us know when you are ready to tackle it.
