It had failed in the car. You could see where the broken ends of the shaft had rubbed together. It was good it failed just after my wife had pulled in the drive at home. Made absolutely no bad noises.

What I was saying is the shaft stayed in the pump. Had it come out or broke closer to the pulley it would have shredded the belt.
