2000 SLE doesn't always start.....
Hi All....I hope you can assist me.
Just acquired a 2000 SLE w/ 41k miles, and have had some issues with it starting.
It seems after I drive somewhere, if I turn it off for a short while (to run into the store, etc), it doesn't want to immediately start back up. All the accessories work just fine, lights are fine - but I turn the key and nothing happens. I thought the first couple of times that I heard it click once when I turned the key, but now I think I was actually just hearing the guages. I have no problems starting it when it'* been sitting in below zero wind chills overnight though.
Anyone have any similar issue, or can anyone give me ideas of what to check?? I appreciate it!

Hi Aimee! Welcome to the Bonneville Forum.
Please add your year and trim of your vehicle to your signature line. That way when you start asking questions in other areas of the forum, we all have a better idea on how to assist you. Click on "Quick Links" above, go down to "User Control Panel" and then click on "Edit your Signature" It'* pretty straight forward from there.
Sounds like you might have a VAT'* issue. Try cleaning your key off with some electrical cleaner, or whip it down with a cotton cloth and some alcohol. Try it again. If the resistor in the key get'* dirty, the magnetic loop in the ignition switch can't read it right. If that doesn't work, then use the electrical cleaner in the ignition switch.

Actually he doesn't have a resistor based system, that changed in 2000
2000+ have a transponder based system so they key being dirty shouldn't really effect it, do you have a key for any other cars on your key ring?

You would know this! Thanks for the lesson Crunk. I thought some of the early 2000 had a resistor based system. My bad.....

Battery cables.
I have a theory. At the battery where your cables are connected, when cold, the metal is contracted. After the car has been started and everything warms up, the metal connectors expand. With battery terminal corrosion building up, it doesn't give you a good contact between the battery and cables. I believe this is what'* happening to you.

Well he says all the lights turn on, when you have an issue with the immobilizer everything works normal just no crank, not even clicking from the starter just nothing

It is possible to have enough of a connection to where some things will turn on. But when your asking for a couple hundred amps coming from a connection that is the size of a speaker wire, you may not even get a click.
I'm just trying to rule out the easy, common problems first before we dig in deeper.
