I'm pretty sure my intake gasket needs replacement. it'* had a slow leak on the outside for about a month, just today I noticed my oil pressure higher than normal at idle, and my oil level above full. It'* parked till further notice :(


Ive changed several intake gaskets on old chev 350'* and ford 302'* but never on a newer car like this.

don't want to get stuck halfway through the project to find I need some overpriced specialty tool to get the job done properly.


so, if anyone has done this...what kind of time would I need for this project and what kind of tools other than the basics?

the gauge on the dash isn't anything to go by, and the oil level is above full but was too much put in or are you seeing coolant in the oil? a milky color, has a different smell to it

no it'* not milky yet.
as for the oil level...was not overfilled, and it has gone up since I last checked the oil. usually check it by-weekly in the morning before it'* been ran for the day...on a level surface.

until you have evidence of coolant getting into the oil I wouldn't suspect an intake gasket, maybe a little oil just got back into the pan from the uppers

I don't see a reason not to drive it unless you start seeing some coolant in the oil then you wanna take care of it soon but its not an immediate killer

to accurately check the level I always make sure it'* up to temp then let it sit about 5 minutes, pull the dipstick, wipe it clean then stick it back in and pull out again to check the level

yes, I pull the stick and wipe it..............then recheck. either way the gasket is leaking on the exterior and needs to be replaced. and I'm still convinced the oil has gone up.
ill drain some out and drive it for a week, if it locks up your going to get a "I told you so" in large bold capitol letters )

Are you sure its not the valve cover gaskets? they like to leak oil and it might look like it'* the LIM but those usually don't fail externally, usually we see coolant and oil mixing if there is a LIM problem and just oil on the exterior is the valve colvers

the antifreeze is pooling in the injector pits. and it smells like antifreeze, also replacing the coolant weekly.

my diesel excursion hydro-locked about 8 months ago from diesel fuel in the oil, just 6 weeks after I did a oil change. (faulty injector) now I am very persistent on checking my oil/fluids accurately & often

all you need is a torque wrench that'* "specialty", just take your time and keep track of all nuts.bolts

if you think its leaking, dont let it sit, open the drain plug and dont let that antifreeze sit in the block!!!

No special tools needed other then a torque wrench. There'* a write up in the tech info area that explains everything you need to do.
